One of our Certified Personal Trainers will design and implement a training program that suits your needs and training goals. Personal Trainers are available when you need them. All appointments for Personal Training & Body Fat Assessments may be booked by calling Sandra at 420-5556.

GROUP PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING


Get a small group of friends (2, 3 or 4 people) together to share the cost of your own Personal Trainer to achieve collective goals. Some examples of training groups include New Years Resolutions, Sports Specific Training, Weight Loss/Tone Up, Beginner Training, Exercise for Older Adults, Abdominal/Core Training – the possibilities are endless. Fees for any Group sessions (2,3, or 4 people) are at a rate of time and half the above rates.

Meet The Personal Trainers at the Tower:



Jonni Shreve is a Certified Personal Trainer through Can Fit Pro and has a B.A. in Criminology and Sociology from Saint Mary’s University. He has worked as a Receiver Coach for the U16 Provincial Nova Scotia Football team which recently won bronze in their division. Jon has played 5 seasons with the Huskies Football Team. Simply stated, Jon has a passion for fitness. He specializes in training youth, he is an expert in developing core strength, strength training, sports specific training as well as just getting back into shape. “I believe that the people we envision in our minds and the goals we want are 100% achievable. It just takes hard work and determination."

 

 

 

Christie Mason has recently moved from North Vancouver, BC where she worked as a Sport Conditioning Coach for "TWIST Conditioning". While there Christie was coaching professional and Olympic athletes including several Vancouver Canucks Hockey Team members. Recently she has been working with clients of all ages and fitness levels to help them achieve their personal fitness goals including recent success stories of one client who lost 100 pounds and another who returned to curling and volleyball after knee surgery. Christie believes that everyone has an inner athlete and that everyone can benefit from functional full body training starting with a strong core. Her education includes a "Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist" (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Can Fit Pro "Certified Personal Trainer", and a Can Fit Pro "Certified Nutrition and Wellness”. As a SMU Alumni (BSc. Psychology 2007) she is very excited to be back at Saint Mary's and part of The Tower Program Staff team. As a former CIS Basketball athlete Christie knows the dedication and hard work that is required to reach your full potential.

 

Kaitlyn Murphy is a Can-Fit-Pro Certified Personal Trainer as well as a Certified Nova Scotia Fitness Association Fitness Instructor. With a strong passion for fitness she has been participating in a variety of competitive sports since a young age. Incorporating fitness as a priority to aid in a healthy lifestyle is important to Kaitlyn and she knows how difficult it can be to find time to work out since she works full time as a Radiation Therapist at the Nova Scotia Cancer Center. Kaitlyn has experience coaching hockey, running on ice and dryland drills as well as running a “Learn to Run” program to help people meet their distance running goals.  Kaitlyn includes athletic training drills as well as a mix of weights and cardio for a total body workout to satisfy your training needs. With her energetic and outgoing manner she will help you to reach your goals. “Hard work and determination conquer all things”

 

Susan Cook provides Personal Training and Small Group Sessions in Pilates on the Mat and Specialized Equipment. The Pilates Method of exercise is an excellent program to strengthen and lengthen your body, and balance the demands of your work and play.  Whether you require relaxation, or a motivating wellness coach, Susan will customize the work to suit your needs and wants. Susan is a Stott Pilates and Gyrokinesis Certified Instructor, and has taught Group classes at The Tower since 2000. Her creative and precise movement training will help you rediscover your potential for a joyful and healthy lifestyle.

Susan is a graduate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and has performed with the RWB, Scottish Ballet, The Banff Centre for the Arts, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. She is a student of Capoeira, and is currently planning a performance with Human Landscape Dance in Washington, DC. Susan’s other interests include hiking, biking, and x-county skiing the beautiful trails throughout HRM and NS.

 

A graduate of Dalhousie University, Robert Brownell’s career began at the grass roots level as a Physical Education teacher in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.  Robert is a certified practitioner with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is the owner of Body Train, a professional service dedicated to strength and conditioning and personal training.  Robert is affiliated with the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic and is currently working with the 2009 Canada Games Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams.  He is also affiliated with the National Training Centre (Soccer). Saint Mary’s University in Halifax has used Robert’s service since October 1998.   As a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, his service has been used by Men’s Soccer, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, and the Huskies Football Team as well as multiple assignments with other varsity programs.In addition, Robert has worked with all levels of hockey athletes in the East Coast League, West Coast League, American Hockey League, National Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior League.Robert’s services have been used by Myosymetries, a chronic pain clinic, and by Performance Physiotherapy, a full service physiotherapy clinic.In addition to the above affiliations, Robert continues to spend countless hours with individual clients providing consultation and fitness programs.

 

Energetic and friendly, Rick Horsman is a Certified Personal Trainer who is devoted to helping people achieve their goals.  He has the knowledge to help his clients improve their sports performance, reduce their weight, increase their day-to-day energy levels or improve themselves in all aspects of fitness. In High School, Rick competed successfully in Track and Field as well as Cross Country Running.  His athletic experiences and successes led to his interest in health, exercise and training.  After High School Rick enrolled at Compucollege where he earned a Diploma in Health Wellness & Recreation.  In addition, Rick is a Can-Fit-Pro Certified Personal Trainer Specialist. Rick understands the importance of living a healthy life while also having balance. His approachable demeanor makes him fun to work with and builds a personable and comfortable atmosphere. Rick believes anything is possible with just a little hard work and he loves helping people work hard for the goals they have set for themselves. Meet with Rick to start your journey towards a healthier you!

 

Stefanie Winters is Certified Personal Trainer, certified through Can-Fit-Pro. She is also a level 1 Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor and is Certified as a Pre/Post Natal Fitness Specialist. As a new mom of a young child, Stefanie understands the importance of balancing a healthy and fit lifestyle for her clients who often lead very busy lives. As SMU alumni, with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History, Stefanie is happy to be able to work as part of the SMU community. Fitness has been a part of Stefanie’s life for as long as she can remember. Her parents have owned and operated their own small gym as well as being competitive body builders. This helped in encouraging her to compete in a NSBBA figure competition where she placed 3rd. Stefanie has a young son and remained active and fit throughout her entire pregnancy. Given the opportunity she will help you to reach your goals in a fun, fresh and exciting way. Stefanie enjoys working with committed and goal oriented clients who want to see a change in their overall fitness and lifestyle.

 

Kaleigh Meisner is a graduate of the Health Wellness and Recreation Program at CompuCollege, and a Certified Personal Trainer through Can Fit Pro. She has designed and implemented “The Biggest Loser” program at The Tower which has been a great success. She understands the importance of consistency in a training program and the difference it can make not only for a sport, but also normal day-to-day activities. Working at The Tower for the past two years, Kaleigh has significantly grown her clientele to include a variety of individuals from exercise beginners, to the Saint Mary’s University Cross Country Team. She has taught various bootcamps, strength classes, and basic yoga and is also the Promotion and Communication Chair for the Nova Scotia Fitness Association. Kaleigh enjoys training clients who are looking to achieve specific goals or improve their quality of life. 

 

 

Thomas

Thomas Kochanoff is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Thomas also has a B.A. in Social Sciences from Dalhousie University. He has worked as the Performance Coach for Saint Mary’s women’s varsity teams in Rugby, Ice Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball and Field Hockey. Thomas helped prepare Basketball star Justine Colley for her National basketball team tryout and Pan Am games with Team Canada.  He has assisted the men's hockey team in fitness testing and some individual work with rehabbing players. Thomas' work with quickness and movement is opening up young tennis players to more explosive play. Thomas’ training approach is about results, using cutting edge drills, video analysis of the sport/activity and the newest movement base training concepts. Through Olympic lifts, plyometrics, yoga positions, speed/agility modalities or his area of focus, core stability and power, your goals become reality. He uses real life training to help elite athletes or active adults with better posture, fluid movement and less back pain. His Global 360 core work has helped elite golfers, young tennis players, runners, tri-athletes and national level hockey and volleyball/basketball players, allowing them to achieve improved speed/power and greater efficiency of movement for activity or sport level performance. His belief is to focus on training movement, more than just individual muscles. Thomas is currently training all levels of athletes from novice to those competing at the national level for their specific sports; additionally, he trains individuals preparing for the police, RCMP or fire department. His motto is "Life has no limitations except the ones that you set".

 

Jason Ashman is certified as a Personal Training Specialist with Can-Fit-Pro, and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NCSA). He is a certified Crossfit Instructor with multiple specialist certifications, including gymnastics, Concept 2 rowing, and movement and mobility. He is also certified with Agastu as both a Kettlebell and Barbell (Olympic & Power Lifting) instructor. Jason also holds his TWIST Silver Sports Conditioning certificate, and is a trained NCCP Competition Development/Level III coach. Currently, he specializes in power development and strength & conditioning for athletes, as well as human movement and mobility. His current coaching interests include power, jump, and speed training, Olympic and power lifting, strongman training, odd object training (kettlebells, tires, ropes, sandbags, kegs, and slosh pipes), Westside Dynamic Sled Training, and Soviet/Russian sport conditioning principles. Jason also maintains a healthy interest in Crossfit, and is available to instruct Crossfit individual sessions or small-group classes, by appointment. His current and past clients include all-city NSSAF basketball players, CIS football athletes, ACAA Rugby players, national-level squash athletes, former collegiate sprinters, nationally-ranked paddlers and rowers, mixed martial artists, junior hockey prospects, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and Crossfit Games hopefuls. In 2010, he served as a strength consultant for the US National Dragonboat Paddling Champions, the Windy City Dragons.

 

Peter Hičo is a certified Personal Trainer with the NSFA (Nova Scotia Fitness Association) and has worked at The Tower since 2003. Take advantage of his ability to translate appetency for performance & health of a motivated client into goals and to direct efforts of an independent, motivated trainee towards achieving the desired results. Peter grew up in Slovakia where he became acquainted with physical training as an athlete preparing for sporting seasons both as a competitive bodybuilder and as a fitness trainer. He came to Halifax to study at SMU where he graduated with a BSc in Biology. In Canada, Peter has volunteered with various associations in roles of a Fitness Educator and an Athletic Trainer. Currently, Peter enjoys a busy schedule of working as a paramedic in the HRM while he continues to study in a part-time program as an Advanced Care Paramedic student. Although Peter has limited availability, he aims to instruct his clients to adopt personal responsibility for and the associated pride of reaching their goals. Erin Horne has a passion for fitness which shines through when she is training her clients. The quote, “practice what you preach” illustrates Erin's personality and her commitment to living a healthy lifestyle. Complimenting her passion, Erin is a certified Can-Fit-Pro Personal Fitness Specialist with a BSc. in Applied Human Nutrition (Dietetics) and a BSc. in Biology. Reach your fitness goals faster and safer. Erin will work with you to develop a program that is appropriate for but challenges your fitness level. Erin understands the busy lifestyles most of her clients lead and she will work with you to find a balance. Helping her client's lead healthy, balanced lifestyles is a top priority for Erin. With her education in nutrition she will share her knowledge on healthy eating strategies to enable her clients to develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime. Whether you are new to fitness or experienced in the gym, she will make your workouts safe, effective, and fun. By constantly finding new ways to challenge your body and push your fitness to the next level, she will give you a great workout every time.

 

Leah Wofsy is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant. She has 5 years experience as a Group Fitness Instructor and has been a part of The Tower community since 2009. Leah is passionate about eating healthy and the impact it has on every aspect of our life. By combining that interest with her knowledge of fitness she is able to help clients become fit, energized and find optimal health. She enjoys helping people make the lifestyle changes necessary to realize their full potential. Leah enjoys running, after competing competitively in Cross Country for 4 years, and plays football for the Halifax Xplosion. She graduated from Mount Allison University in 2009 with a degree in Biology and currently works at the IWK Health Centre in the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research.Combining healthy eating strategies and fun, effective workouts, Leah will help you accomplish your goals and find energy and wellness!
