2009 AUS Men's Soccer Awards Announced

November 5, 2009 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2009 men's soccer major award winners as selected by the conference's head coaches following regular season play.

The 2009 Atlantic University Sport Player of the Year is Andrew Rigby of the CIS No. 3 ranked Cape Breton Capers. Rigby, who played previously with the Ottawa Fury of the USL Premier Development League, is in his first year of university eligibility and anchored a Cape Breton squad that scored a league-high 36 goals, an improvement of 17 from the previous season, while allowing just 12, down from 22 in 2008. Andrew netted one goal this season while assisting on 12 other CBU goals.

MacDermid collects shutout as Capers drop Huskies

The drive for five straight AUS women’s soccer titles is off to a good start for the four-time defending champion Cape Breton Capers.

Jessica MacDermid, who posted 10 shutouts during the regular season and playoffs last year, earned her second in as many days to start the season as the Capers blanked the host Saint Mary’s Huskies 3-0 in an Atlantic university women’s soccer matinee at Huskies Stadium.
