The Saint Mary's Huskies withstood a spirited comeback attempt from the Panthers in the fourth quarter to win 81-73 on Sunday afternoon at the Tower and earn a weekend sweep of UPEI.
Subway Player of the Game Tory Fassett scored twenty seven points and grabbed ten rebounds while Jerome Smith, Warren Liang. Brian Rouse, and Riley Halpin added thirteen points each to help the Huskies improve to 4-5 on the season.
The Panthers (6-2) trailed by twenty two points early in the fourth quarter but cut the lead to five with three minutes remaining led by Jonathan Cooper (29 points) and Terrance Brown (23 points). The rally would fall short as consecutive lay ups and a foul shot by Brian Rouse stretched the lead back to ten with one minute remaining.
The Panthers made 26 of 31 foul shots compared to only 8 of 18 for Saint Mary's.The Huskies led at the half 48-34.
The Huskies travel to Wolfville on Wednesday to play the Acadia Axemen in a game that can be seen on ssncanada.ca.
