Huskies lose Heartbreaker to Acadia on home floor

n a wild, spirited affair on Wednesday night, the Saint Mary's Huskies lost their second straight heart breaker on their home floor.


Despite a dazzling performance from Tory Fassett featuring 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, the Huskies lost 76-75 to the Acadia Axemen in front of nearly five hundred fans at the Tower.


Anthony Sears scored 22 points and Owen Klassen had a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Axemen. Sean Stoqua added 16 points for Acadia who improve to 8-4 on the season, good for twenty six points and second place in the AUS.


Jerome Smith and Miguel Pink each added 14 points for the Huskies who drop to 6-8 on the season. Saint Mary's stormed back from an eight point half time defecit to take a 63-55 in the fourth quarter but couldn't hold off a late charge by the surging Axemen who have now won five games in a row.


The two teams will battle once again next Wednesday night in Wolfville (webcast on ssncanada). The Huskies currently sit in six place, two points ahead of the UNB Varsity Reds for the last playoff spot.
