McCusker scores hat trick in 4-2 Huskies win
SMU wins Game 1 at Nationals
ANTIGONISH, N.S. (CIS) – A hat trick by Saint Mary’s forward Lauren McCusker ( Newmarket, ON) and a three-goal second period effort helped lift the No. 4 seeded Saint Mary’s Huskies over the No. 6 Montreal Carabins by a 4-2 score in Game 3 round robin action Friday afternoon at the StFX Keating Centre.

Fifth-year Saint Mary’s star thrilled about opportunity to play at CIS event
Kori Cheverie said she’s saving the best for last.

The fifth-year forward with the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s hockey team will make her first and only trip to the CIS national championship as a player this week in Antigonish.

OTTAWA (CIS) – The two-time defending national champion McGill Martlets are heading into the CIS women’s hockey championship as the No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive year.

The six-team CIS tournament, hosted for the second straight season by St. Francis Xavier University, gets under way Thursday and concludes Sunday with the gold-medal final set for 6 p.m. Atlantic Time.

Aigles Bleues loose 6-2 in final
SMU wins AUS Championship
MONCTON – Saint Mary’s University Huskies caused quite a surprise during the weekend by capturing the honours of the 13th Subway Atlantic University Sport Women’s Hockey Championship played at the J.-Louis Lévesque Arena.
 
Huskies beat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 6-2 in the final game on Sunday to win the right to represent the Atlantic Region in the national championships in Antigonish in two weeks.

Cheverie nets four points as SMU ousts Dalhousie

Lisa Jordan’s Saint Mary’s Huskies ousted her sister Lesley’s Dalhousie Tigers from the Atlantic university women’s hockey playoffs on Friday afternoon.

Kori Cheverie collected two goals and two assists as the Huskies won an 8-6 barnburner over the Tigers in second-day action at the conference playoffs in Moncton.

2009-10 AUS Women's Hockey All-Stars and All-Rookie Team Announced

SMU's Cheverie named 1st team all-star
February 23, 2010 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2009-10 women's hockey all-star teams and all-rookie team as selected by the conference's seven head coaches following the regular season.

The first place Moncton Aigles Bleues and second place StFX X-Women each picked up two first team all-stars, with Kori Cheverie of the Saint Mary's Huskies and Jocelyn LeBlanc of the Dalhousie Tigers also being honoured as first team selections.

Huskies Go Pink to Support Breast Cancer Research

The Huskies wore brand-new pink jerseys, pink tape and pink skate laces during their regular season game against the St. Francis Xavier X-women. The team hoped to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research and inspire awareness about the increasingly common disease.

SMU player Kaitlyn Abbass competed against men growing up and is transitioning seamlessly playing against top-level female competition.
Hitting the ice with a smooth stride, Kaitlyn Abbass looks like she has found her home in the hockey world.

The second-year commerce student from Goose Bay, N.L., plays forward for the Saint Mary's Huskies women's hockey team.

DAN CHURCH NAMED HEAD COACH OF CANADA’S NATIONAL WOMEN’S UNDER-18 TEAM FOR 2009-10 SEASON; ALAIN AND JORDAN NAMED ASSISTANT COACHES

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Dan Church (Toronto, Ont./York University, CIS) will serve as head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team for the 2009-10 season, including a three-game series versus the United States’ Women’s Under-18 Select Team in Calgary, Alta., in late August and the 2010 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship next spring in the United States.

Familiar foes face off
Dal, SMU meet in AUS championship opener
Familiar foes will face off in the opener of this weekend’s AUS women’s hockey championship.

The Dalhousie Tigers and Saint Mary’s Huskies, who just played each other last Saturday, will meet again in the first quarter-final match of the conference tournament Friday afternoon.

2008-09 AUS Women's Hockey Major Awards Announced
Launcelott wins Most Sportsmanlike Award, Cheverie wins Community Service Award
March 5, 2009 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2008-09 women's hockey major award winners as selected by the conference's seven head coaches.

The 2008-09 Atlantic University Sport Most Valuable Player is goalie Kathy Desjardins of the #7-ranked Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues. Desjardins, a second year player from Loretteville, PQ, becomes the first netminder to ever be named league MVP of the AUS women's hockey conference.

Kathy led the Atlantic conference in goals against average (1.51 GaAvg), save percentage (0.946) and did not lose a game in regulation all season. She posted an impressive 17-2 won-loss record, with her only losses coming in shoot-outs. In two seasons, Desjardins now has a career record of 28-8. A member of last year's all-rookie team, Kathy also picked up two assists this season.
