Thrashers Name Barry Brennan Strength and Conditioning Coach; Ryan Bowness Promoted to Manager of Player Development and Hockey Administration
The Atlanta Thrashers have named Barry Brennan as the team’s new Strength and Conditioning Coach, according to General Manager Rick Dudley. In addition, Ryan Bowness has been promoted to Manager of Player Development and Hockey Administration. |

The CIS No. 8 ranked Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the StFX X-Men 5-3 Monday night in front of 3,896 fans at the Halifax Forum to complete a three game sweep of their best-of-five AUS men's hockey final.
The Huskies will head back to Thunder Bay, Ont., for another run at the University Cup national men's hockey title. |

The Saint Mary’s Huskies couldn’t capitalize on their first six power-play chances on Tuesday night.
They made it count on their seventh opportunity.
St. Francis Xavier’s Brennen Wray was penalized for a check to the head early in the second overtime and Colby Pridham scored with 11 ticks left in the penalty as the Huskies skated away with a 3-2 victory over the X-Men in Game 2 of the Atlantic University Hockey Conference championship in front of 1,750 fans at the Keating Millennium Centre in Antigonish. |

March 3, 2010 (HALIFAX, NS) - The CIS No. 8 ranked Saint Mary's Huskies will have the opportunity to defend their AUS championship title after defeating the No. 4 ranked Acadia Axemen 9-2 in front of 3,228 fans Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum to win their best three-of-five semifinal series 3-1.
Saint Mary's, now 5-1 in the playoffs, were led by third year defenseman and Subway Player of the Game Andrew Hotham (Barie, ON), who scored four goals in the win and added a pair of assists for a career-high six-point night. |

Instead, they were treated to an all-star performance from Cam Fergus.

Conway leads SMU past STU
First-year goalie Neil Conway came within two minutes of posting his second straight shutout over the St. Thomas Tommies but had to settle with a 5-1 victory for his Saint Mary’s Huskies in AUS men’s hockey action Friday night at the Halifax Forum.
Conway, who earned his first university shutout on Sunday afternoon in Fredericton, made 20 saves with his only blemish being a Matt Eagles’ goal at the 17:44 mark of the third period. |

CIS announces 2008-09 Desjardins Top Eight Academic All-Canadians
SMU Hockey Player, Chris Morrison in Top Eight
OTTAWA (CIS) – Canadian Interuniversity Sport proudly announced Monday the student-athletes honoured as Desjardins Top Eight Academic All-Canadians for the 2008-09 season.
Every year, a growing number of CIS student-athletes are recognized as Academic All-Canadians, having maintained a grade point average (GPA) of 80 percent or better over the academic year while competing for one - or more - of their university’s varsity teams.
In 2008-09, a record 2,256 students achieved the prestigious status. The previous mark of 2,126 dated back to the 2005-06 academic year. |

The Dalhousie Tigers nearly pulled off a stunner on the opening night of the Atlantic University Hockey Conference season.
Dalhousie, which won only four games last season, took the rival Saint Mary’s Huskies, coming off a 20-win season, to overtime. But Cam Fergus notched a power-play marker 1:24 into the extra frame to lift the Huskies to a 3-2 victory Friday night at Dalhousie Memorial Arena. |

Stienburg signs five-year contract extension with Huskies
Saint Mary’s University announced today that men’s hockey coach Trevor Stienburg has signed a five-year contract extension with the university.
With 13 years behind the bench with the Huskies, Stienburg is the reigning ‘dean’ of AUS hockey coaches and has amassed a record of 182-121-24. He led the Hockey Huskies to two league championships, one in 2002 and most recently last season (2008-2009). |

The BLG awards were established in 1993 to recognize the top female and male athletes from universities affiliated with CIS. After 16 successful years in Calgary, the BLG awards are coming to Toronto for the first time ever.
On Monday, April 27, 2009, the eight national nominees will be honoured, with one female and one male winner receiving a $10,000 post-secondary grant in front of more than 1,000 BLG guests at the John Bassett Theatre, in the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. |
