November 29th, 2011. (Halifax, N.S.) A balanced scoring attack and efficient free throw shooting proved to be the difference on Tuesday night as the Saint Mary's Huskies withstood a barrage of three pointers from the Saint Francis Xavier X-Women to win 96-76 at the Tower.
League and CIS leading scorer Justine Colley (East Preston, N.S.) tallied 28 points and connected on a perfect 13 of 13 from the charity stripe on a night that saw Saint Mary's make 21 of 24 free throw attempts in total.
Shannon Chapman (St.Margarets Bay, N.S.) scored 16 points off the bench while Laura Langille ( Bedford, N.S.) added 16 points and 7 rebounds to pace a Huskies attack which had five players reach double figures in scoring. The Huskies led 51-42 at halftime.
Meanwhile the X-Women were successful on 11 of 18 three point attempts with Anne Kiberd ( Halifax,N.S.) connecting on 6 of 9 from beyond the arc to finish with 20 points. Vanessa Pickard ( Riverview, NB) scored 24 points to lead Saint Francis Xavier.
The X-Women (2-3, 4 pts) are now finished AUS regular season play for the term while the Huskies (5-1, 14 pts) will play their mid season finale in Sydney versus the Cape Breton Capers on Friday, December 2nd at 6:00.
