SMU volleyball is pleased to announce the commitment of Ariel Smith for the 2011-2012 season. Ariel, a 5’10 left/right side from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, previously played two seasons with the Winnipeg Wesmen where she was named Canada West Second Team All Star (2009-2010). She also led the Wesmen in team kills, was second in points, and third in digs.

Ariel was a member of the 2009 Team Nova Scotia Summer Games, when they finished 4th in Canada. She was also played with the Acadia Axewomen Basketball team during the 2010 season. Head Coach Darren Russell commented, “We are very excited to have Ariel commit to our program. She is a naturally gifted athlete who will bring lots of confidence and experience. Ariel is a player who can step in and contribute right away and keep the Huskies moving towards a championsip.”
