At Friday's women's hockey game, the Saint Mary’s University women’s hockey showed just how girly they can be and raised over $1000 in a very strong effort.
The Huskies wore brand-new pink jerseys, pink tape and pink skate laces during their regular season game against the St. Francis Xavier X-women. The team was hoping to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research and inspire awareness about the increasingly common disease.
Friday’s hockey game was the third Saint Mary’s sporting event to take part in the Breast Cancer fundraising initiative undertaken by the Saint Mary’s Athletics Council. The Council will have a Breast Cancer Awareness booth setup at the game, where raffle tickets and pink t-shirts sponsored by Cleve’s Source for Sports can be purchased.
Saint Mary’s University athletes will continue to sell raffle tickets over the holidays. The draw will take place on Jan. 27, 2010 when the Athletics Council presents a cheque to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Upcoming Breast Cancer fundraising games will be held at the men’s hockey game at the Forum on Jan. 15 and at the women’s volleyball game at the Tower on Jan. 23.
