Our Men’s and woman’s cross country teams competed this weekend at the AUS championships, hosted by UNB in Fredericton. The conditions were almost perfect with little wind, and a dry course which led to some fast times and season/personal bests.
Our Woman came out with impressive finishes in the 5k course. Rookie, Julie Hopper led our woman’s team with a personal best effort running 22:00. Senior and Captain Laura Fitzpatrick ran a seasonal best following seconds (22:03) behind Hopper. Monique Muise surprised the field by improving her 5k time by almost 2 minutes (22:49) and finished close behind Fitzpatrick. Sharlane Macleod, Shauna Marshall, Amber Blair, and Emma Poirier rounded out the Huskies performances.
Our men’s team had an extremely successful 10 km race, with each athlete achieving personal best times. Rookies Jake Wing and Alexis Lavoie-Gilbert led our men’s team finishing in 34:00 and 35:41 respectively. Senior and captain Bradley Palmer was less than a second behind Alexis (35:41). Third year runner, Corwin Trottier, also improved his 10k PB with a time of 36:23. J.K. MacAdam, Brendon Lisi, and Angus MacDonald, ran personal bests to round out our Men’s team.
Several of our athletes ran well enough to represent SMU at the CIS Cross-Country National Championships in two weeks time at Laval University (Quebec City).
