Question: Hi guys! I'm an international student in SMU. I'm planning to go back to my hometown for spring and summer session which is four months in total, and come back at the end of August. Just wondering will it affect my student status? Does it necessary for me to take at least one course in these two short terms? Or I'm good with giving myself for long holiday.

Answer: Hi! Going back home for four months will not affect your student status at all! Just keep in mind that if you stay in Canada for a year continuously then you will be eligible for the MSI card which basically means free insurance. If you have an MSI card then you do not have to pay for the SMUSA international insurance.
