Question: Hello, I registered for the September-December 2016 and January-April 2017 term for undergraduate bachelors of commerce, I have submitted my fee but I am confused about something. I have noticed that my account says that tuition fee has been received for the September-December 2016 session but January-April 2017 is not being highlighted. Furthermore, the balance is categorised under 'Unbilled Account Activity' therefore I am very confused. I will be applying for my student visa application this week and therefore I require a form of confirmation from the university that my dues have been paid. I would higly appreciate any help going forward.

Answer: Hi Danish! Fees for the September-December 2016 and January-April 2017 terms are not yet posted on student accounts. Your payment was applied fully to the September-December semester because the computer system applies all fees to the next upcoming term of registration unless you specify otherwise. A negative number on your account means a credit on your account. Likely, the entire amount you paid is currently showing as a credit since the fees have not yet been posted for the upcoming academic year. Once the fees are applied, your payments will still be applied to the September term. Once fees are due for the January term, the credit available on your September term (if there is one) will automatically be applied to your January semester. I hope this helped a bit, you can always contact the Service Centre if you have further questions or need to confirm anything. The Service Centre can view your account and give you more detailed information. Contact them at 902-420-5582 or service.centre@smu.ca
