Question: What does it mean to be a part-time student? Does it make it difficult to complete your program?

Answered by: Emma
Answer: You are considered a part-time student in a regular semester if you are taking less than 3 classes (9 credit hours) at a time. If you are a part-time student it would likely take more time for you to complete your degree, but there are many students who do so and are still able to finish their degrees in a very reasonable amount of time. You should contact an Academic Advisor in your department to discuss this, and how many classes you wish to take at once. They can explain the implications of this and you can plan out how long your degree would take to complete as a part-time student. From the experience of my friends who are part-time, taking fewer than 3 classes a semester may mean that you need to do some extra planning along the way to make sure you get the courses you need and the prerequisites that you need when they are offered.
