Question: My daughter has a renewable entrance scholarship based on maintaining a 3.67 GPA first year. In her first year of Commerce she is taking four courses per semester for a total of eight and then two courses in May and June. Can you confirm she is eligible in her first year for the entrance scholarship with that course load?

Answer: Hi there, Congrats to your daughter on the acceptance to SMU and her entrance award! Besides GPA, first year requirements to maintain the Renewable Entrance Scholarship again in second year are to take a minimum of 24 credit hours; which equals to be 4 classes per semester (Sept-Dec & Jan-April). Although, to graduate in 4 years she will have to take two summer courses between May-August. Once in second year, in order to keep this scholarship your daughter must take the full 30 credit hours between May (after her first year) and April (of second year); so she can do another 4 courses during Sept-April and two during May-August to keep up with these requirements. Best of luck!
