Question: Hi, I'd like some information regarding residence fees and meal plans. I lived in res and had a meal plan I however did not attend Saint Mary's though. I moved out and now owe around $4000. I didn't make any notifications when I left res so I am wondering does this sound accurate in terms of amount of owed money? As well if the meal plan was only used a couple of times can a refund be issued? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Answer: Hi there, For residence & meal plan fees, you only pay one semester at a time so depending on what meal plan & residence you've chosen, the amount owed should be around $4750-5500. The exact amount owed can be found by accessing the SMU Banner with your A number (student #). That being said, to ensure your not charged residence & meal plan fees for next semester, you should officially cancel your meal plan (email: dining@smu.ca) and withdraw from residence (email: residence.life@smu.ca) ASAP. When contacting SMU Dining, you can explain the situation to them and inquire about a refund, however, it most likely will not be possible. Additionally, since your withdrawing from residence before your contract is over, you may be subject to some extra fees for next semester. This depends on a few factors, but Housing & Conference Services (residence.life@smu.ca) will let you know if any additional fees apply when you officially withdraws from residence. Hope this Helped.
