Question: Hi, How do you address Professors in Canadian Universities?

Answered by: Aryn
Answer: It depends on the professor, but it’s typically best to default to formal address unless they specifically tell you otherwise. So, if a professor has a PhD, “Doctor (Lastname)” is appropriate. “Professor (Lastname)” is also a safe option. It’s usually best to avoid Mr., Miss, Mrs., etc. Again, this is general advice – a lot of profs will mention on the first day of classes how they prefer to be addressed, but until then it never hurts to default to formal!
