Question: Hi! I am a new student starting in the fall and I just got my billing invoice, and I want to opt out of the medical and dental plans. When I find the page where it says for Canadian students to opt out, it brings me to my smuport and there is no tab for me to opt out. Do I have to wait until I am actually attending courses to opt out? or is there a way I can do it online before I start? Thanks :)

Answer: Hi there! If you are having trouble with the website, you can also opt out of the health plan by going to the Health Plan Office (Student Centre, Room 524) and provide proof of coverage. You can opt out of it the first week of classes and the deadlines are: Fall Term - September 25 and Winter Term - January 25. I would suggest that you email the student health office if you have any more inquiries. You can contact them at healthplan.smusa@smu.ca or 902-496-8754.
