Question: I am a first year student who just finished their first semester. I recieved an F in two classes (both full yeat courses) and have a GPA of 1.25. Will I be kicked out of the univeristy??

Answer: Hey! Don't fret yet! The Fs you received were only midterm marks as they were full year courses. If you do better in your second term and receive a D overall, the original F will be changed to the D final grade. You also have another term to work on your GPA. At the beginning of May each year students are reviewed for academic probation and academic dismissal. Any student with a GPA between 1.00 and 1.69 are placed on Probation, anyone below a 1 will be dismissed. You can review the exact rules in the Academic Calendar (www.smu.ca/Calendar). In the meantime I highly recommend you make an appoint to speak to your academic advisor. They will help you set up a plan to stay on track with your studies and show you all your options for the term! Good luck!
