Question: Anything you can strongly suggest bringing to residence for my room. I have been placed in Loyola single room. I have purchased a mini fridge and microwave already. Hoping there is room for a cabinet/shelf for extra storage but won't buy anything til I arrive as I am coming from Ontario(16 hours away). Also, how do I get in touch with someone who may have used books(commerce) so I can save $?? Will I need proper business attire right away(pant suits etc)??? Is it difficult to get into the paid co-op program after second year?

Answer: Hi Regan, I have never lived in residence myself, but here's a fun little link from SMU with some suggestions, http://www.smu.ca/campus-life/new-student-information.html. I know a friend of mine wished she had brought some more storage bins/baskets to make her room look tidier. You can certainly buy all of your extra things when you get to Halifax, we have plenty of stores (Wal Mart, Superstore, etc.) nearby. What I did last year for textbooks, was first check the used sections at the bookstore on campus, that way they were a little newer than others and I was able to see it before I bought it. If you decide to do that, you can check back in on different days throughout the week, they stock their shelves with used books every few days, and you wouldn't want to miss out on a deal! There are also Facebook pages where students connect to sell textbooks, SMUSA Book Exchange and SMU BOOK SELLING. Business attire was one of my fears, but no. You can wear sweatpants and flip flops everyday if you would like! However, sometimes students will choose to wear a professional outfit for classroom presentations. A few of the main requirements to be accepted into the co-op program, are to have declared a major and maintain a 3.0 major (in the Commerce program). Your academic advisor or the co-operative education office, can give you more advice with this along the way. If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to send them our way. Good luck, I hope you have a great first year!
