Question: Hi. I got an as a grade for two of my classes for this semester. However they are full year courses and I was wondering if I withdrew from the second half of the course and then two other courses that would fit the requirements that those would have? Ex. Withdraw from Linguistics and Critical Thinking and take, for example, Sociology and something else. I don't want these F's to affect my GPA. Can I do this? Without any reprecussions?

Answer: Hey! If you drop a full year class now you will receive a W in both sections of the course and it won’t change your GPA. You can see all the dates and grades for Adding/Dropping classes here: http://www.smu.ca/academics/course-withdrawal-dates-and-deadlines.html . Be sure to look at the Full Year courses section. Now (Before January 13) would be the best time to drop the courses you need and add others as after the 13th you will have to apply for late registration to get into a new class. Your Academic Advisors would be the best people to answer any questions about which adding and dropping courses and what will work for your program. Good Luck in your new term!
