Question: Can I take more than two anthropology first year courses? In the basic arts requirements it says it will only count 6 credit hours per subject but the requirements for major in anthropology says I need 4 first year anthro courses (12 credit hours total) I have already taken one semester and am confused as to what I should take next.

Answer: Hi, I can see your confusion. The Basic Arts Requirements is literally only a requirement that you have to fulfill, which means that you can exceed the outlined credit hours for each category (such as Literature, Language, Humanities, Social Sciences). Therefore, the Basic Arts Requirement does not limit the number of courses that you can take for any discipline. If you are pursuing Anthropology, you should definitely proceed to meet the requirements for a major in Anthropology. The "6 credit hours per subject" only means that you have to take two social science courses other than Anthropology to fulfill the requirements for the Social Sciences category. Hope this helps, and please remember that you can always see the Arts Academic Advisors to ask any questions about courses and degree planning!
