Question: Are the tuition fees charged by term or for the entire course? I'm from Saint Lucia as well and I'm interested in the university but what is it like for you, coming from the Caribbean?

Answer: Hey Thaiannna, That was a great question with regards to payment of tuition fees. Basically, tuition fees are paid per semester and there are two semesters in an academic year. The first being fall from September to December and winter starting from January until April. In most cases, tuition fees are due the second week of classes and the tuition fees include the cost of all courses that the student registered for the semester. The number of courses per semester varies from four courses up to six per semester. As a student from St. Lucia, I must admit that adjusting to the weather was a huge challenge especially since we all like the tropical lifestyle. However, you get used to the winter and you actually enjoy skiing and snowboarding! Also, you might encounter culture shock because it took me sometime to adjust to the new culture and environment, that is definitely fine! St. Mary's University has a vibrant Caribbean society as well as Multicultural Committees to assist international students and local students. Honestly, it is a great opportunity and you will definitely enjoy Halifax and St. Mary's University. Hope to see you soon!
