July 4, 2011 Summer Session II classes begin.
August 19, 2011 Summer Session II ends.
September 3, 2011

First day of Residence move-in (beginning at 9:00am).

September 7, 2011

Classes begin.

Last day of Residence move-in (5:00pm). If students are planning on arriving after 5:00pm on September 7, 2011 they need to contact the Residence Life Office at residence.life@smu.ca.

September 16, 2011

Last day for registering and changing a Fall Term (September-December) or full year (September-April) course.

Last day for final payment of Fall term tuition fees.

Last day to drop courses and receive a full refund.

October 3, 2011

Last day for filing Applications for Graduation for degrees, diplomas and certificates to be awarded in January 2012 or at Spring Convocations, 2012.

October 10, 2011 Thanksgiving Day.  University closed.  No classes.
October 23, 2011 Fall Convocation.
November 11, 2011 Remembrance Day – University closed.  No classes.
November 14, 2011 Last day for withdrawing, without academic penalty, from three (3) credit hour or six (6) credit hour courses taught only in the Fall term  (Reference: Academic Regulation 16).
November 30, 2011 Last day of classes in Fall term.
December 1, 2011 Study Day.  No classes.
December 2, 2011 Start of formal final examinations in three (3) credit hour courses and formal mid-year examinations in six (6) credit hour courses.
December 8, 2011 Patronal Feast of the University.  No examinations are scheduled on this day.
December 20, 2011 End of final exams and end of the Fall term. Note: Subject to change should it not be possible to schedule all formal examinations in the designated timeframe.
January 4, 2012 CLASSES RESUME.
January 13, 2012

Last day for registering in a Winter term (January – April) course

Last day for final payment of Winter term tuition fees

Last day to drop courses in the Winter term and receive a full refund.

February 17, 2012 Last day for withdrawing, without academic penalty, from six (6) credit hour courses taught from September to April (Reference: Academic Regulation 16).
February 20 - 25, 2012 Winter Break.  No classes.
March 16, 2012 Last day for withdrawing, without academic penalty, from three (3) credit hour courses or six (6) credit hour courses taught only in the Winter term (Reference: Academic Regulation 16).
April 3, 2012 Last day of classes for the winter term.
April 4, 2012

Study day.

April 5, 2012 Start of formal examinations.
April 6, 2012 Good Friday. University closed.
April 9, 2012 Easter Monday. University closed.
April 10, 2012 Exams resume.
April 24, 2012 End of formal final examinations and end of the Winter term.  Note: Subject to change should it not be possible to schedule all formal examinations in the designated timeframe.
