About Us

The Residence Department is divided into four areas: Director's Office (which includes Family & Graduate Housing and Off-Campus Housing), Residence Life, Residence Security, Residence Services.

Director, Housing and Conference Services

The Director administers the University's Residences and Family/Graduate Housing. S/he supervises the residence staff, prepares and administers the annual budget and develops and implements, programs, procedures and policies that affect the quality of student life. The Director is responsible for student discipline and liaises with the public, parents and students.

Assistant Director, Residence Life

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for maintaining the high quality of life in the residences. He/She is aided in this process by Residence Coordinators and Residence Assistants.

Residence Coordinators

Each of the three residences has one Residence Coordinator (RC) who is employed by the Residence Department as a live-in Residence Life Staff representative. RC's assist with the supervision of the student staff (RA's) and also have a role as an administrator, disciplinarian, and helper. They work with the RA's to identify the students' needs and develop programs designed to meet those needs, encourage an atmosphere conducive to the academic goals of the university and promote responsible behavior among the residents.

Each week there is a RC on call to respond to situations as they arise (in conjunction with the RA's, Residence Services Staff and the Assistant Director, Residence Services). The primary role of the RC is to provide support and guidance for the RA's, as well as all residence students. If you are experiencing a problem with residence living, please do not hesitate to see your Residence Coordinator.

Residence Assistants

Each residence floor at Saint Mary's has a Residence Assistant (RA) who is a senior student employed by the Residence Department to help make your life in residence productive, fun and worthwhile. RA's provide personal assistance to students, co-ordinate social and educational programs, explain and enforce policies and regulations, carry out various administrative tasks, and act as liaison between you and the Residence Department. They aim to promote an atmosphere in residence that is fun, friendly, and fulfilling, while maintaining a degree of order and discipline. They also try to maintain a balance between a reasonably quiet environment for studying and sleep, and an atmosphere where students can relax and socialize.

You will meet your RA shortly after you move in. He/she will be delivering your mail, distributing supplies, and posting information on the floor. Regular floor meetings will be held to keep you informed, hear your concerns and help you meet your floor mates. You will find that your RA will become a friend.

Assistant Director, Residence Services

The Assistant Director of Residence Services is responsible for maintaining a comfortable atmosphere for all residence students by implementing and enforcing residence rules and regulations. He/She is aided by Residence Services Officers/Customer Service Representatives (RSO/CSR).

Residence Services Officers/Customer Service Representatives (RSO/CSR)

A student security team under the supervision of Assistant Director, Residence Servicse, provides residence security at Saint Mary's University. The Residence Security Officers/Customer Service Representatives (RSO/CSR's) are students working for students, ensuring that Residence is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. A security and information desk is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Residence Department believes that the security of all its students, their belongings and the University's property is a shared responsibility. To this end RSO/CSR's are trained to educate students about rules and regulations, enforce university policies and procedures, and respond to emergency situations. RSO/CSR's can be contacted by calling the Loyola Residence Desk at 420.5591

Manager, Residence Services

Under the supervision of the Director, Housing and Conference Services, the Manager, Residence Services coordinates Residence maintenance and custodial services with the Facilities Management Department.
