Patrick Power Library

Government Documents

Materials

The library is a select depository for Canadian federal government publications as well as Nova Scotia Provincial Government publications. It is a full service library for all Statistics Canada paper publications. Publications from other Provincial and Municipal Governments are obtained on an "as required" basis, with a focus on Atlantic Canada material.

Borrowing

With the exception of Statistics Canada material and a few selected other material, which are non-circulating, government documents may be borrowed the same as other material found in the general collection of the Library.

Location of documents

Canadian Government Documents at St. Mary's are either incorporated into the main Library Collection or housed within the separate Government Documents Collection that is located in the Reference Room.

Hours

Government Documents may be obtained during the same hours that the library is open.

Govdoc Searching Tools in the Library

Besides the Novanet catalogue, patrons looking for Government Documents held by St. Mary's should search the Govdoc SearchMagic database. St. Mary's holdings for Government serials, Statictics Canada and selected other government material held in the separate Government Documents collection that are not listed in the Novanet catalogue, are listed in this database. This database is installed on machine number eight of the CDRom searching computers along the wall in the reference room. If you need help getting on or using this database, just ask the staff at the reference desk.
