Auto Replies for Legacy Email
Legacy email accounts are being phased out, with end-of-life scheduled for October 2015.
If you use a legacy email account on the Husky1 server, you may wish to have automatic replies sent in response to email messages received while you are away. These instructions outline the steps to turn that service on or off.
Note: If these instructions are performed incorrectly, it may result in the loss of email messages. Use at own risk!
These instructions are for Windows. WinQVTNet or another telnet client can also be used.
Turning Auto Reply On:
- Close all programs and windows.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Run.
- Type in: telnet husky1.smu.ca and press Enter.
- Enter your email username.
- Enter your email password.
- Type: COPY PMDF_ROOT:[DOC.EXAMPLES]TRIP.COM SYS$LOGIN:TRIP.COM
- Type: COPY SYS$TOOLS:TRIP.TXT SYS$LOGIN:TRIP.TXT
- You will have to edit trip.txt to include the date of your return, or to include any other customized message.
To do this, at the $ prompt type EDIT TRIP.TXT
Make the required changes and then press <CTRL+Z> to exit.
- Type: COPY PMDF_ROOT:[DOC.EXAMPLES]TRIP.DELIVERY SYS$LOGIN:MAIL.DELIVERY
- Type: MAIL
- Type: SET FORWARD IN%"Your email address"
Here is an example of the set forward command: MAIL>SET FORWARD
- Type: EXIT
- Type: LOGOUT
Turning Auto Reply Off:
- Log onto telnet using steps 1-6 above.
- Type: DELETE MAIL.DELIVERY;*
- Type: DELETE TRIP.REPLY;*
- Type: MAIL
- Type: SET NOFORWARD
- Type: EXIT
- Type: LOGOUT
