Decision on Vista
ITSS recently asked for feedback from the Students, Staff and Faculty of Saint Mary’s on your thoughts on moving to the Microsoft Vista Operating system campus wide. The overwhelming response indicated that our campus users do not want to see Vista on campus. The majority of users have asked us to stay on Windows XP and wait for Windows 7.0.
We have also solicited the input of our many sister institutions across Atlantic Canada, and have heard that the majority of them have chosen not to go to Vista and will be waiting for the Windows 7.0 operating system. Considering all of the feedback, ITSS has made the decision not to move to the Vista operating system on campus. We will continue to use and support Windows XP, and will release more information about plans for Windows 7.0 once the new operating system has been officially released.
If you have questions, comment or concerns about this decision, please direct them to Kathleen Jay-Powell, Manger, Desktop Technologies at kjpowell@smu.ca.
