International Projects

Saint Mary’s University has been implementing international capacity-building and training projects since the early 1980s.  Usually funded by external donors (including the Canadian government), these projects focus on building the capacity of human resources in developing and transition countries to contribute to the development priorities of that country.  Working in collaboration with in-country partners, Saint Mary’s provides formal and informal training to target groups, advises on policy issues on a variety of levels, and promotes adherence to international standards in governance, gender equality, security, and social justice.

Priority sectors for the university’s international development projects include:

  • Business and private sector development
  • Small and medium sized enterprises
  • Environment
  • Community development
  • Project management (including monitoring and evaluation)
  • Governance
  • Gender equality
  • Issues related to persons with disabilities
