Public Engagement
Saint Mary’s University has demonstrated a commitment to international development education and public engagement for more than 25 years. Programs have included development education at secondary schools throughout the province, community development education, and anti-racism education. Recently, as an Implementing Organization for both CIDA’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) and Students for Development (SFD), the University has concentrated on supporting young Canadians in developing their own public engagement activities. In addition, the University, through its public engagement projects has dedicated itself to providing students, faculty, staff and the general public with the tools to actively engage their communities in international issues. To this end, Saint Mary’s has and continues to play a defining role in engaging and involving Atlantic Canadians in activities and dialogue relating to Canada’s role in international development.
