Through the Ministry of Education and Science, the Government of the Russian Federation offers scholarships to Canadians to provide accessibility and learning of Russian language, culture and environment to help advance career development in the international arena. These scholarships are based on reciprocal agreements between the governments of Russia and Canada.

2012 Scholarship Programs offered by the Taiwan Ministry of Education

The Taiwan Scholarship Program:
This program is offered to students who wish to enrol in a degree program in Taiwan. Recipients enrolling in a Masters or Doctoral program will receive the tuition per year up to 40,000 NTD (approximately 1,300 CAD) and a monthly stipend of 20,000 NTD for two or four years respectively.
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship:
This program is tailored for students who wish to focus exclusively on the study of Chinese. Recipients of this scholarship will be given a monthly stipend totalling 25,000 NTD (approximately 800 CAD) for up to one year study at a university-affiliated Chinese language centre.

‘2012 Japanese Studies Student’ Scholarship
The Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships for academic study in Japan to foreign students interested in deepening their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture. The
purpose of these scholarships is to promote mutual understanding and deepening friendly ties between Japan and other countries through the
application of advanced knowledge regarding Japan’s language and culture.
Please Note: This scholarship is intended for students who are currently undergraduates at a foreign (non-Japanese) university majoring in fields related to Japanese language or Japanese culture. Applicants must have Japanese language ability sufficient for receiving education at a Japanese university in Japanese.

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is committed to fostering the next generation of researchers and analysts. Africa Initiative Exchange Program
The AI Graduate Research Grant supports short-term academic placements for Africans and Canadians undertaking research on Africa. The program is building capacity by giving bright, highly-motivated students and scholars an opportunity to discover and impart new learning in a cross-cultural experience. Supported research covers innovative, policy-relevant topics within the thematic areas of conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, migration, and climate change.
The program offers grants of up to CAD$10,000 each to fifteen graduate students per year to conduct field-based research for up to three months in Africa. Participants have the opportunity to further their research through the utilization of on-the-ground resources and research materials, as well as to develop international networks with fellow researchers and practitioners. Research results are presented and disseminated through a variety of public channels.
Grant applicants are expected to identify professors and experts that they would like to work with at universities and research organizations in Africa. Applicants will be required to submit a letter of support from their host organization in Africa.

Short-term scholarships for language study
Scholarships of 1, 2, or 3 months are available for the summer of 2012 for the study of the Italian language. The scholarships are awarded for specific programs at the Universities for Foreigners of Perugia, Siena, and Roma Treor at other recognized Italian institutions (authorized to issue certification of Italian as a second language).
*Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma.
Long-term scholarships
Offered for periods of 3, 6, or 9 months (subject to length of course), for the 2012 academic year. Scholarship funding will not be available until
January 1st 2012.
*Candidates for long-term scholarships must be proficient in Italian.
