Institution: Uganda Martyrs University (UMU)
Description:

Uganda Martyrs University is a Catholic founded private university. UMU whose main campus is located at Nkozi 82 kms west of Kampala, the Capital of Uganda, was started in October 1993 with 84 students and two academic departments. To date, the total enrolment of students is over two-thousand (2,000), of whom four hundred and sixty (460) are full-time resident on campus, while the rest are following distance-learning programs and part-time programs. This international atmosphere offers a good study experience to the students and staff as well as an opportunity for a rich cultural exchange.

The University has a well stocked library, an African Research and Documentation Centre, a computer network with a stable internet link, excellent catering facilities, sports facilities, a supermarket and recreation rooms.

Generally Nkozi enjoys a typical tropical climate with temperatures averaging about 26 C during the night and 16 C at night. The hottest months are from December to February. The rainy seasons are from April to May and October to November.

Program:

Academic departments at UMU are: Institute of Ethics and Development Studies, Faculty of Business Administration and Management, Centre for Extra-Mural Studies and Distance-Learning, Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Building Technology and Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Education. All courses are taught in English.

Eligibility: Completion of 30 Saint Mary’s credit hours (formerly 5.0 credits) in good standing
Tuition:

Tuition is paid directly to the host university. The approximate cost of tuition and room/board for one semester in 2009-10 academic year was US$1610. 

Other costs:

Students are responsible for covering additional costs, including administration fee*, airfare, passport, student visa, books, health insurance, meals, and personal expenses.

*$100 administration fee is payable upon acceptance by Saint Mary’s.

Housing:

The University has seven halls of residence on the main campus and five additional privately owned halls off the main campus for the full time students who reside on campus. Students are accommodated within double rooms that are spacious with ample light, providing the students with an environment conducive to study. Day students may reside off campus. UMU also has a guest house for the visiting lecturers and other guests of the University.
