Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) Application Help Sessions:
These sessions are for students whose visas to get into Canada has expired and are planning a trip outside Canada. You should apply for you visa approximately three months before you plan on traveling.
NOTE: If you are planning to go to the USA, you do not need a visa to come back to Canada as long as:
- You do not go to any other country
- You have a valid study permit
- You have the most recent expired TRV (Entry Visa)
When you come to the sessions, you must bring the following documents with you:
- Your SMU student ID card
- Your Passport
- Your valid Study Permit
All sessions will be held at 12noon in the International Centre, 3rd Floor, room 300, Student Centre, on the following dates:.
- Tuesday, February 7
- Wednesday, February 15
- Wednesday, February 22
- Wednesday, February 29
- Tuesday, March 6
- Wednesday, March 14
- Tuesday, March 20
- Wednesday, March 28
- Tuesday, April 3
- Wednesday, April 11
- Tuesday, April 17
- Wednesday, April 25
IMPORTANT: Students will be asked to show their SMU student ID cards, passports, study permits and the above mentioned scanned files. DO NOT FORGET to bring them with you; otherwise you will not be able to participate in the sessions.
PLEASE BE ON TIME. ONCE SESSIONS BEGINS, LATE STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND SESSIONS.
ONLINE Study Permit Renewal Help Sessions:
These sessions are for students whose study permits are expiring soon - You should apply to renew your study permit approximately three months before it expires.
You must bring YOUR PASSPORT, YOUR VALID STUDY PERMIT and YOUR LAPTOP (please make sure that your laptop is fully charged). You must also SCAN, SAVE AS THREE SEPARATE INDIVIDUAL FILES and bring with you the following:
- The page (or pages) in your passport containing your picture, name, birthday; and the passport's issue and expiry dates; and city and country of issue
- Official bank account statement clearly showing the account balance. If you are sponsored by your government, the sponsorship confirmation letter.
- Confirmation of Enrollment letter:
NOTE: If you don't have a scanner you can get your documents scanned at the IKON Print Centre located in MaNally Main 031. The cost is $2 dollars for the first page and $0.25 cents for any other pages.

You must bring YOUR PASSPORT, YOUR VALID STUDY PERMIT and YOUR LAPTOP (please make sure that your laptop is fully charged). You must also SCAN, SAVE and bring with you the following:
- The page (or pages) in your passport containing your picture, name, birthday; and the passport's issue and expiry dates; and city and country of issue.

ONLINE Post-Graduate Work Permit Application/Renewal Help Sessions:
You must bring YOUR PASSPORT, YOUR VALID STUDY PERMIT and YOUR LAPTOP (please make sure that your laptop is fully charged). You must also SCAN, SAVE AS TWO SEPARATE INDIVIDUAL FILES and bring with you the following:
- The page (or pages) in your passport containing your picture, name, birthday; and the passport's issue and expiry dates; and city and country of issue
- A Letter from the Registrar's Office stating that you have met all the requirements for graduation (If you are an undergraduate student, you CANNOT apply for this letter until all your marks are posted in Banner. If you are a graduate student, you CANNOT apply for this letter until all your marks are posted in Banner and your thesis has gone for binding). AND your Official Final Transcripts of Marks from the Registrar's Office.
OR IF APPLYING AFTER CONVOCATION
- The page (or pages) in your passport containing your picture, name, birthday; and the passport's issue and expiry dates; and city and country of issue
- A Certified Copy of Your Degree (Bring your degree to the International Centre and we will make a copy and certify it for you). AND your Official Final Transcripts of Marks from the Registrar's Office.
MASTER OF FINANCE PROGRAM: If you completed our Master of Finance Program, you need the following documents to apply for the post-graduate work permit:
- The page (or pages) in your passport containing your picture, name, birthday; and the passport's issue and expiry dates; and city and country of issue.
- Letter from the Registrar's Office stating that you have met all the requirements for graduation. You CANNOT apply for this letter until all your marks are posted in Banner and your thesis has gone for binding.
- Letter from Lesley Magee, Manager, Master of Finance stating the program's length and structure.
All sessions will be held at 2:30pm in the International Centre, 3rd Floor, room 300, Student Centre, on the following dates:
