About Us

The Gorsebrook Research Institute is Saint Mary's University's oldest and most prestigious research centre.  Established in 1982, the GRI is funded in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, with additional support from Saint Mary's University.

Location:
The GRI is located at 5960 Inglis Street, near the corner of Inglis and Robie Street, on the Saint Mary's campus. Our usual office hours through the academic year are 9-5.

People:

The Executive Director of the GRI is Peter L. Twohig, Ph.D. (peter.twohig@smu.ca)

The Office Manager of the GRI is Jackie Logan (jackie.logan@smu.ca)

Students:

The GRI offers an undergraduate fellowship to an exceptionally qualified student. The GRI Undergraduate Fellow helps to organize events and provide some limited research assistance to the Executive Director (Peter Twohig). The fellowship is valued at $2000.  Students should have a GPA of 3.67 or above and be in their third or fourth year of study. Interested students can contact the Executive Director.

The GRI offers a graduate fellowship to an exceptionally qualified graduate student.  The GRI Graduate Fellow is nominated by the Atlantic Canada Studies Program Committee.  No application is necessary.  The fellowshp is valued at $2000.00

From time to time, the GRI has research assistantships available to help with particular projects.

Research Affiliation

The GRI can provide an academic home for post-doctoral fellows, Ph.D. students or visiting scholars.  For information on affiliation, please click here.
