Frequently Asked Questions

>> How can I help Saint Mary's University?
Saint Mary’s appreciates every gift it receives, and the spirit in which it is given. Individuals and organizations that contribute to the University impact future generations of students in personal and meaningful ways; and assume a leadership role in their professional community.

We would like to see our friends support us in three ways over their lifetime: annual giving, capital gifts and bequests. This is what we call a “lifetime of giving.”

>> What is the difference between annual giving, capital gifts and bequests?

Annual giving supplements normal operating expenses and has a tremendous impact on Saint Mary’s ability to maintain a standard of excellence.

In addition to the annual fund, there are times of growth that need additional resources. Capital gifts invest in the future growth and advancement of Saint Mary’s University.

Bequests represent a person’s conviction and dedication to Saint Mary’s, and are a lasting way of expressing what the University means to them. These types of gifts influence generations to come.

>> How can I give in my will?
You can choose to leave some or all of your estate to Saint Mary's University. This could include money, property, investments, real estate or other parts of your estate. By indicating your wish to donate in your will, you can make a substantial gift that won't affect your current lifestyle. Please contact our office to find out more.

>> Can I give monthly?
Yes. As well as one-time and annual gifts, it is possible to donate monthly to Saint Mary's University. Monthly donations through credit card, bank debit, or payroll deduction if you are an employee at SMU, are giving options.

>> Can I decide where my gift will be spent?
Yes. Saint Mary's University has many projects you can support. Please contact us so that we can match your area of interest with a project or faculty at Saint Mary’s.

>> Will my company match my gift?
Many companies encourage their employees to contribute to charitable organizations by matching their gifts. Contact your company’s personnel office to find out if they offer this program and obtain the required form. Please complete the form and send it to us with your gift.
