Sobey MBA First Place Win in East Meets West Leadership Competition
Date Published: February 7, 2017
Sascha Hamilton-Miller, Haley Maillet, Pallav Parikh, and Santiago Behar Gomez represented the Sobey MBA program at the East Meets West Leadership Case Competition at the Ivey Business School from February 2-4, 2017, taking first place overall.
This 11-team event is a collaboration between Ivey’s Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership and the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary. The event provides an opportunity to network with Canada’s top MBA students and business leaders, the chance to learn from successful organizations and their leaders and exposure to a demanding set of cases featuring leadership challenges that require good judgement and action.
In the first round of the competition, which dealt with leadership at the Stratford Festival, Sobey’s own Pallav Parikh was on the winning team in a mixed team challenge. The following day, teams worked on a 5-hour live case on sustainable development and safety for the City of Calgary. After presenting to a panel of six judges in two separate rounds, the Sobey team was awarded 1st place.
The team greatly appreciated the opportunity to represent the school and learned a lot by working on multiple cases, networking, and listening to numerous guest speakers. The team was coached by Dr. Ethan Pancer, a Sobey marketing professor.
