Sobey EMBA Ranks 5th in Canada
Date Published: January 12, 2017
(Halifax) In early January, Ivy Executive announced that the Sobey Executive MBA program, the leading accredited Atlantic program of its kind, was the number 5 ranked EMBA in Canada. The ranking reflects feedback of over 90,000 executives and rates programs on factors including reputation, ROI, curriculum, international experience and life balance.
In January, 2017, the EMBA program entered its 25th anniversary, a celebration of the program’s first 1992 graduating class of 23 students. Since then, 612 students have graduated from the program, and this year’s graduates will bring that number to over 625. For 25 years, program has had an impact on hundreds of companies in the Atlantic region that sponsored students to attend, hired EMBA graduates or benefitted from the annual EMBA trade mission abroad.
In November, 2016, Sobey EMBA Academic Director Dr. Wendy Carroll was recognized by Canadian HR Reporter as one of Canada’s Top 25 HR professionals.
“All indications are that 2017 is going to be the best year yet for our Executive MBA program,” noted Dr. Pat Bradshaw, Dean of the Sobey School of Business. “In 2016, we were proud to release Creating an Impact with Purpose, a report on the economic, social, intellectual and educational contributions the Sobey School makes in our region. These recognitions, for the EMBA program and Dr. Carroll, are some of the fruits of that impact.”
The Sobey Executive MBA program grants an MBA degree, but curriculum and classroom discussions are tailored for students with senior executive experience. Among notable graduates of the program are Dr. Stephen Jones, CEO of the award-winning 4Deep Inc, Dan LeBlanc, who was President and CEO of Sports Direct, and Sara Napier, CEO of Halifax United Way.
Each year, the program’s second year students lead an international trade mission representing Atlantic Canadian companies in a select overseas market. Past destinations have included Lima, Hong Kong, Warsaw, Quito and Bogota. This year’s cohort will travel in February to Ho Chi Minh City, representing notable local businesses.
