Success comes from trying everything!

  • Sanaa, Yemen
  • Triple major: Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations

I was born in Sanaa, Yemen. I come from a family that had nothing and worked to make something, a family of engineers and entrepreneurs. I have six siblings. After completing high school, I left Halifax for Calgary to pursue a Networking Systems diploma at SAIT Polytechnic. Following my graduation, I worked for a year but I did not feel like I belonged in that field for the rest of my life, so I went back to school, attending Saint Mary's University and studying engineering. I ended up starting a yoga business with two other friends and ran it for a year on a waterfront dock viewing the harbour. My partners left Halifax for India and Calgary, at which point we decided to pause the business and follow our dreams. A year and a bit into my studies I switched faculties and decided to go with Commerce at Sobey School of Business majoring in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations.

Working at the Sobey School Business Development Centre was not enough, so I joined SMUSA starting as a pack leader, then Chief Returning Officer, managing the elections, and eventually settled with being on the Board of Directors serving the students. I also joined the Sobey School of Business Commerce Society, holding the position of VP external last year. I currently lead Enactus Saint Mary's as the co-President running over 10 projects ranging from working with at-risk youth, eliminating barriers to the workforce, to educating imprisoned women, and to consulting small businesses in helping them realize their full potential.

Three of my latest awards are:

  • Recipient of the 2015 Student Leadership Recognition Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership within and beyond the classroom.
  • Under my leadership, Enactus SMU was awarded the Society of the Year by SMUSA
  • Received the Silver "M" Award - The Silver "M" is the second highest award that is given to a graduating student who has excelled in extra-curricular activities in the area of student affairs.

My entrepreneurial mindset will continue driving me in starting business in the future. I am currently in contact with a couple of companies that I may be work with after graduation in starting my career.
