|The first-ever Canada DE was held June 4-10, 2017. A truly international event: The 1st ever Canada DE was also cross-listed as CaribDE’s 26th session, with 24 participants from 9 countries.|
A bit about the program
The Credit Union Development Education (aka DE) program tackles the pressing challenges that co-operatives and credit unions face today while providing critical lessons in co-operative principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues. While 2017 marks the launch of DE in Canada, the international network of programs has been going strong since the launch of the US program in the early 1980s.
What is DE?
Canada DE is a week-long, full immersion program focused on sharing and elevating your credit union knowledge while expanding your professional network. Every year, leaders around the globe become certified as Credit Union Development Educators. Becoming a DE also represents a personal commitment to deepen, rejuvenate and advance the role, value and impact of the co-operative sector.
Completing your Canada DE designation is one step on the path to achieving the distinctive International DE designation (I-CUDE):
1) Complete your local DE Program; 2) Complete an independent studies project appropriate to the learning objectives of your DE Program; 3) Serve as a mentor in a DE class within your own region or another DE region; 4) Participate in an international program, conference or training opportunity; 5) Attend WOCCU’s International Conference or a National or Regional Conference.
Canada DE is a collaborative effort: Building on relationships with Melvin Edwards, Carla Decker, David Marquez, and other leaders associated with the CaribDE program, we are creating something new in Canada! Canada DE involves close collaboration with others in the DE network (espicially Tracey Kliesch in Canada, Lois Kitsch in the USA, and George Ombado in Africa).
Who Should Attend?
Executives, managers, staff and board members; regulators, trainers, service providers and others (18 years and over) interested in financial co-operatives.
Program fees: $2500 USD (for US and Carribbean participants), $3250 CAD (for Canadians and all other). The fee includes course fees, meals, break snacks and 7 days of residence accommodations on campus (Saturday-Saturday).
*Payments are processed in CAD even if sent in other currencies so final price may vary slightly for non-CAD payments depending on the exchange rate when processed*
About CaribDE: Since its May 2010 inception, 800+ leaders from 21 countries (including Canada, USA, Bermuda, Haiti and Kenya) have graduated. CaribDE is endorsed by the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU), CUNA Caribbean Insurance Society (CCIS) and the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). CaribDE partners closely with the US CUDE program.
