Prof Katrin Jacob

Frau Katrin Jacob was born and raised in the former East German Republic, the GDR. She earned her Teaching Diploma for English and Russian at Leipzig University. After spending one year as a Teaching Assistant for German on a Fulbright Scholarship at Clemson University (Clemson, SC), she went back to Germany to continue teaching there. Frau Jacob then earned a Master’s degree in German Studies at the University of Georgia (Athens, GA). Since moving to Halifax in 2002, Frau Jacob has taught English as a Second Language at the East Coast School of Languages and, since 2004, German at all levels offered at Saint Mary’s University, including courses on Fairy Tales and Legends, German Culture and Civilization, Life in the Former GDR before and after the Fall of the Berlin Wall, and Contemporary Literature and Culture. Currently, Frau Jacob is teaching Introductory and Intermediate German in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics here at SMU.
