Brian Hotson Director |
| Brian has been a professional writer for over twenty years. Brian has ten years experience in publishing, specifically for Nelson Canada and Pearson Education as a writer and project manager, overseeing the publication of more than thirty titles. Brian has also worked as a televison producer, director, and writer for Ontario's public educational broadcaster, TVOntario. Brian has an undergraduate degree (History) and is currently is completing a Master's degree in Theological Studies from Queen's University (Kingston). The documentary short film, Featherland (2009), which Brian coproduced, was recently nominated for a national documentary award, The Golden Sheaf. | |

Alison Schneider, MA |

While gaining experience as a copy editor and writer for various publications at the University of Guelph, Alison Schneider received her B.A. (Hons.) in History with a minor in Biology. She taught English for three years to at both high school and university levels, as well as to professionals while living in Asia. After her travels, Alison pursued her interest in social justice and received her MA in International Development Studies. Alison has worked at the Writing Centre for more than two years, and enjoys her interaction with students in all areas of academia. |
Katie is currently in her final year of a BA in English Literature and plans to pursue an MA with a focus on Victorian fiction, before moving on to a PhD. She enjoys the processes of writing and editing, and got an early start to her tutoring career by editing friends’ essay in high school. While much of Katie’s professional experience rests in the eco-tourism and customer service industries, the opportunity of working with her peers to help improve writing skills and techniques is a welcome and rewarding opportunity. |

Caitlin Williams |

Jamie holds a BA from SMU with honours in Religious Studies as well as a diploma in Paralegal procedures from Maritime Business College. This is his second year at the Writing Centre.
| Caitlin, in her second year working at the Writing Centre, obtained a BA in History and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in International Development Studies here at SMU. Before moving to Halifax, she spent time teaching and tutoring ESL students of all ages in South Korea, Thailand, and Ottawa. |
Aimee Popovacki |
Keimeko Scotland |
Keimeko, a native of Antigua & Barbuda, holds Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Business Administration and is currently in the final year of the MA program in International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University. His academic interests include International political economy, education and development, critical pedagogy and world history. His current research is focused on the political economy of education and its articulation to developmental issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Keimeko enjoys reading, cultural exploration, rare-breed dogs, motorsport, and traveling, and is a fluent in Spanish. |

Susan Joudrey, MA |
Lindsey Carmichael, PhD |
Susan, who holds a MA in Public History, has seven years experience providing academic guidance to undergraduates, both as an Instructor and a Teaching Assistant. In these roles she’s worked with hundreds of students, helping them understand assignment requirements and improve their writing skills. Susan has also developed educational resources for Oxford University Press, and has experience copy-editing academic texts. Her most recent publication is a chapter in The West and Beyond: New Perspectives on an Imagined Region. Susan is currently completing a PhD in Canadian History. |
Lindsey Carmichael has the unusual credentials of being both a geneticist and children's author. In 2006, Lindsey received the Governor General's Medal for her PhD thesis, Ecological Genetics of Northern Wolves and Arctic Foxes. She finds talking about science more fun than doing it, however, and now works as a freelance writer, editor, and writing instructor. Lindsey's nonfiction has appeared in professional journals, general interest publications, and magazines for children. She's recently completed four kids' books on animal migration, and writes young adult novels in her spare time. |
Vander Tavares |

Vander has been a private tutor for over four years. He is completing his undergraduate degree in English Linguistics at SMU, and is expecting to receive his Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate from the Saint Mary's TESL Centre in December. Vander speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French and is interested in foreign language learning and teaching. Before joining the Writing Centre, he worked at Dalhousie University in diversified roles; his most recent positions being the Continuing Education Program Assistant and the Web Site Manager at the School of Social Work. He obtained his Office Administration Diploma in 2008, and his Web Site Development Diploma in 2009, both from NSCC. |
