Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives (CEARC)

A focal point for academic and applied research

As part of our efforts to develop the most relevant curriculum materials possible for the co-operative business model, we began a series of Symposia to study various aspects of co-operative business management. The first was the Symposium on Co-operative Accounting. This Symposium highlighted the importance of this area of research which led to the creation of the Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives (CEARC) in 2007.

CEARC’s research work is a collaborative effort and includes partnerships with other researchers and universities. CEARC’s vision is to be the leader and respected global voice, in helping co-operatives apply accounting and assurance standards to the specific circumstances of co-operatives.

The Centre of Excellence provides a focal point for research into issues about how accounting and reporting systems should best be designed to fit the unique nature of co-operative businesses around the world. CEARC works closely with co-operatives, public accountants, and academics to develop innovative research programs with practical applications for co-operatives.
