New Faces in CEARC for 2011 (March 2011)
CEARC has had a number of changes over the past few months. With the departure of John Maddocks to take up a position in the UK at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), the Centre has not had ongoing administrative support. Therefore, the CEARC Board of Directors appointed Dr. Daphne Rixon as Executive Director in February 2011. Dr. Rixon holds a PhD in accounting from University of Warwick and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Prior to joining Saint Mary’s University in 2008 as Assistant professor, she worked in senior management roles in the public and private sectors. Dr. Rixon is currently engaged in research into financial and non-financial performance indicators for co-operatives. Also, Dr. Louis Beaubien was appointed as a CEARC board member in February 2011. He has a PhD from the University of Western Ontario and has a CMA designation. Dr. Beaubien has worked in the financial services industry and he will complement the CEARC board through his ongoing interest in conducting research into accounting for co-operatives. CEARC hired Michael Brown, a current student in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University, as the Administrative Coordinator. We believe these changes will enable the Centre to achieve its research objectives.
