Dr. Jie Dai is a full-time faculty member in the Department of Finance and Management Science at the Sobey School of Business. Prior to his Ph.D. studies at Laval University (Quebec , Canada), he received an M.Sc. in finance from Laval University , an M.A. in economics and a B. Sc. in physics both from Nankai University (Tianjin , China).

Dr. Dai teaches Business Finance (a core course in both undergraduate and MBA program), Financial Institutions (an elective course at both undergraduate and graduate levels), and Financial Management (a required course in the Master of Finance program). He has been awarded Teaching Excellence (MBA Professor of the Year) at Sobey School of Business of SMU in the recent year.

The main research interests of Dr. Dai lie in the studies of asymmetric information and moral hazard problems in financial markets; applications of signaling games, contracting devices, and risk management in financial institutions. He is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences of finance. His research work has been awarded Best Papers in academic conferences in Canada and the U.S.

Dr. Dai adores art and music, and enjoys playing violin and badminton in his leisure time.
