2009 - 2010 IMPACT Program - Fund Managers

Fund Managers are the main fiduciaries of the fund and are responsible for making all decisions with regards to asset allocation, sector allocation, and security selection. Each Fund Manager is assigned to specific industry sectors and receives valuable assistance from at least one Research Associate.

Sophia WS Cheong, is a second year MBA student with a concentration in Finance. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of London . Sophia has work experiences in accounting and financial field, as well as sales and marketing. As a Fund Manager, she focuses on Telecommunications sector. Sophia is one of the recipients of the Atlantic Canada CFA Society Scholarship in 2008 and one of the recipients of the MBA Fellowship & Scholarship Awards in 2009. She has passed the CFA level 1 examination in June 2009 and intends to pursue a career in investment banking.

Erin Garner, from Annapolis Royal , is a fourth year undergraduate student majoring in Finance. As a Fund Manager, she works in the Industrials sector. Erin has earned a renewable Academic Achievement Scholarship, the Bruce S. Oland scholarship and the J.J. Hennessey Memorial scholarship. She is also the current Vice President Finance and operations at SMUSA. Erin plans on pursuing the CFA designation and a career in the financial industry.

Paul Kratz , from Honolulu , Hawaii ; is a third year undergraduate student at the Sobey School of Business pursuing a major in Finance. Originally born in Osaka , Japan , Paul has lived in five different countries throughout his life time and gained his curiosity of financial markets through his father's work in the industry. As a Fund Manager in the IMPACT fund, Paul is responsible for the Energy sector. Paul's goals include among other things, pursuing a career in Financial Engineering .

Ryan Mrozek , originally from Niagara Falls , Ontario is currently a second year MBA student. He is a Fund Manager for both the Consumer Discretionary and Health Care sectors. Ryan holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario . Prior to returning back to school for the MBA program, Ryan worked as a clinical research coordinator in neonatal neurology at the B.C. Children's hospital. Ryan successfully passed the June 2009 CFA level one examination and he was one of the recipients of the Atlantic Canada CFA Society Scholarship in 2008. He plans to work in the Capital Markets after graduation.

Joel Snow, from Halifax , is a fourth year undergraduate student double majoring in Economics and Finance. Joel was awarded the Santamarian Scholarship as an entering undergraduate and has retained it each successive year. He has earned the Canadian Investment Manager designation and is pursuing the CFA Charter. As a Fund Manager Joel covers the Financial sector.

Andrew Walker , from Halifax , is a fourth year student pursuing a degree in Finance. As a Fund Manager, Andrew is responsible for the Materials sector. Andrew has traveled to Peru in the summer of 2008 with Global Vision to help compose an economic report. Andrew is Bloomberg Equity Certified and his goals include pursuing the CFA designation and a career in investment banking.

Kyle Westhaver , from Halifax , is a fourth year undergraduate student with a concentration in Finance, in addition to a Certificate of Financial Instrument Analysis. In his role as a Fund Manager, he is responsible for the Information Technology sector. Kyle successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) in his second year of study and brings with him professional experience gained working in Diversified Equities at a Toronto investment bank in the summer of 2008. Kyle's goals include achieving the CFA designation, and a career in Corporate Finance, Sales, and Trading.
