Welcome to the Division of Engineering at Saint Mary's University

 

Beginning your Engineering education at our university is a wise choice. In doing so you enter the Dalhousie Associated University Engineering System, and when you successfully complete your 2-year Diploma of Engineering at Saint Mary's University, you will gain automatic entrance to Dalhousie University, situated just a few blocks away, where you will finish your Engineering degree.

A formal Memorandum of Understanding exists between Dalhousie and each of the Associated Universities. Article 4.0/1 states:

"The Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University will treat students from the Associated University programs on an equal basis with students who entered the program at Dalhousie University. Academic merit will be the only deciding factor on admission to disciplines."

After your first year at Saint Mary's University you must choose a particular discipline of Engineering, as the second year program is discipline specific. The disciplines available at Saint Mary's are Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Materials, and Mineral Resources. Two of the courses required for Chemical Engineering are not available at Saint Mary's; however, if you are interested in that discipline, arrangements can be made for you to take them at Dalhousie on a Letter of Permission.

Saint Mary's also offers a four-year degree program with a major in mathematics and a Diploma in Engineering. To receive this degree/diploma, students must complete the DipEng program and specialization requirements in addition to mathematics courses and electives. The math courses are chosen in consultation with the Department of Mathematics and the electives must satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree. Four-year BSc/DipEng degrees with other concentrations can be arranged.

We are now very pleased to offer our students the option of completing their Engineering degree at the University of Windsor, located in Windsor, Ontario. Saint Mary’s University students successfully completing the Diploma of Engineering program at Saint Mary’s University will automatically be admitted into the Mechanical Engineering program (General, Automotive, Materials, or Environmental options) or the Civil Engineering program at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Engineering.

Engineering classes at Saint Mary's are relatively small - a maximum of thirty students in a session. We specialize in personalized instruction and try to create an atmosphere in which students and faculty can work together productively.
