Recommended Humanities/Social Science Electives

CAEB requirements call for electives in the Humanities & Social Science which deal with central issues, methodologies and thought processes of the discipline. Saint Mary's students are required to take English Literature (ENGL 1205) which comprises one half credit. (3 credit hours).  Engineering students are required to take additional elective courses as indicated for their specialization. The following is a list of Saint Mary's courses which we consider to fulfill the CAEB definition.

  •  Of the electives required, 2 must be in Humanities.

(HUMANITIES)

  • English – (excluding ENGL 1205)

  • History

  • Classics

  • Philosophy

  • Religious Studies

  • Modern Languages – (culture/literature)

    Credits for spoken language instruction do not qualify as Humanities/Social Science.


(ARTS/SOCIAL SCIENCE)

  • Anthropology
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology     

Other courses may be selected by special permission provided that pre-requisites have been fulfilled. 

Please note: GEOGRAPHY, ECONOMICS & BUSINESS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AS ELECTIVES BY DALHOUSIE.
