Recommended Electives for Year I Engineering Students

CAEB requirements call for electives in the Humanities and Social Science which deal with central issues, methodologies and thought processes of the discipline. First year Engineering students are required to take English Literature (ENGL 1205), which comprises one half Humanities credit (3 credit hours) at Saint Mary’s University; plus an elective course from the lists of electives courses we consider to fulfill the CAEB. Please choose one these courses to cover your required elective.

 

 

HUMANITIES ELECTIVES

  • English – (excluding ENGL 1205)
  • History
  • Classics
  • Philosophy
  • Religious Studies
  • Modern Languages – (culture/literature)

Credits for spoken language instruction do not qualify as Humanities credits.

 

 

ARTS / SOCIAL SCIENCE ELECTIVES

  • Anthropology
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

Other courses may be selected by special permission provided that pre-requisites have been fulfilled.

 

Please note: Geography, Economics, and Business are not accepted as electives by Dalhousie University.
