Outreach Initiatives
Molecules of Life Project
The Molecules of Life Project (MLP) teams up university students from the Arts and Sciences to deliver an elementary school curriculum based around specific molecules of life with the intent of encouraging students to think and express their ideas by way of experiments and art projects. Saint Mary's University Chemistry Professor, Dr. Robert Singer, has been a key component in making this initiative a success. The Faculty of Science as well as Saint Mary's University Web Services Department have also been a big help getting this project onto the web.

High School Outreach
Dr. Robert Singer visits local high schools to give lectures on Green Chemsitry. He has also given seminars on Green Chemistry at science teachers' workshops and to groups of guidance counselors. He and Dr. Keith Vaughan also host high school co-op students in their research labs so they can complete their work terms as research assistants. Dr. Singer is also the District Coordinator for the Canadian Chemistry Contest and the Chemistry Olympiad administered through the Canadian Society for Chemistry.
Dr. John Young, Professor Emeritus to the Department of Chemistry, has donated several data logging systems to Prince Andrew High School. He has worked with teachers Ellen Louth and Dany MacIntyre to use these computers to set up a computerized chemistry laboratory like that boasted in the Chemistry Department here at Saint Mary's University.
University Outreach
Dr. John Young, Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Marc Lamoureux, Associatet Profressor and Chair, both of the Department of Chemistry, will be visiting the Chemistry Deparment at UNB Saint John to perform a demonstration of a computerized teaching laboratory.
Saint Mary's University Mini-University Program
The Department of Chemistry will once again be partaking in the the Saint Mary's Mini-University program with weekly demonstrations every Wednesday in July. They will be providing two different sessions, one for children aged 9-12 and another for those aged 13-15 years.
