Research

My research interests lie in the area of organic synthesis, specifically of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic and acyclic molecules with potential antitumour activity. Of special interest to me are the triazenes, which are known to be antitumour agents; some of the triazenes, notably DACARBAZINE and TEMOZOLOMIDE, are used clinically in the treatment of skin cancer and brain tumours. Currently we are investigating the synthesis of an extensive series of bis-triazenes derived from alkanediamines which have been shown to possess some novel properties. The NMR spectra of some of these molecules are quite novel, and several crystal structures of molecules in this series have revealed some unique structural features.
