ICA Clusters
The ICA owns and operates three clusters for specific tasks. The Pluto cluster is now several years old and will be replaced by the Lachesis cluster. Both of these are largely for code development (Pluto for MPI and Lachesis for both MPI and OpenMP). Pluto may be retained as a training tool, although both can be used for execution as needed. Cerberus is dedicated to long running 3d hydrodynamic calculations by Dr. Thacker and his coworkers.
Pluto is a 48-cpu (24 node) Intel Xeon processor cluster with 32 at 2.4GHz and 16 at 2.8 GHz. It has a Gigabit Ethernet interconnect for MPI code. Each node has 1G-Byte of memory. The head node has about 1 T-Byte of disk storage. It runs the Rocks Clustering software (V2.3.2) which is based on Redhat Linux 7.3. The following compilers are available on this cluster:
- GCC C, C++, Fortran 77 - V2.96
- NAG Fortran 95 - V5.0
- Intel Fortran Compiler V9.0
- Intel C/C++ Compiler V9.0Lachesis is a 144-core (three 48-core compute nodes plus 8-core head node) AMD Opteron 6172 (2.1GHz) processor cluster. It has a Gigabit Ethernet interconnect for MPI code. Two nodes have 1.33G-Bytes of memory/core - one node has 2.66G-Bytes of memory/core. The head node has about 6.7 T-Byte of RAID disk storage. It runs the Rocks Clustering software (V5.4) which is based on CentOS Linux 5.4. Compilers available include gcc/g++/gfortran (V4.1.2).

Cerberus is a 304-core (three 32-core nodes and nine 16-core nodes) AMD Opteron processor cluster with an InfiniBand high-speed interconnect for MPI code. Most nodes have 2G-Bytes of memory/core - one 32-core node has 4G-Bytes of memory/core. The head node has 600G-Byte of magnetic scratch storage and 236G-Bytes of high-speed flash memory scratch storage. There is a separate data server with a capacity of 11.6 T-Byte of RAID disk storage. It runs the Rocks Clustering software (V5.0) which is based on CentOS Linux 5.0. Compilers available include Intel ifort/idb V9.0, gcc/g++/gfortran (V4.1.2)
