Elder Learners
An Association of Lifelong Learners
"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing." - Albert Einstein
Since 1989, Elder Learners has worked with Saint Mary's University to sponsor monthly lectures, on Saturday mornings during the fall and winter, on the Saint Mary's campus. More than 100 lectures have included fascinating talks on science (fossils, oceans, medical miracles), heritage (Pier 21, historic buildings, Halifax waterfront) and culture (literature, film and radio). Anyone can join, regardless of age.
Saint Mary's University and Elder Learners continue with the initiative to offer short courses on interesting topics. This initiative has met with great success and as such, the list of courses is gradually being expanded to meet the growing demand. New courses are being added and one or more of the previous courses may be brought back. The Fall Course offering is noted in the lecture brochure and as usual all the course information will be displayed here on the website.
Saint Mary's University and Elder Learners are committed to programs for lifelong learning. Medical studies have shown that an inquiring and active mind has long term positive influence on health. These programs build upon the traditions of peer learning and the 'University of the Third Age' that have characterized Elder Learners. Please join us for an interesting and rewarding experience of ‘Learning Unlimited'.
